Infantry - 75th and 76th regiment, brigade Naples

Naples Brigade - 75th and 76th Infantry
Naples Brigade - 75th and 76th Infantry
Naples Brigade - 75th and 76th Infantry
sheet

The Brigade brings together the 75th battalions, stationed in Syracuse, and the 76th Infantry, stationed in Messina.

Year 1915
The Brigade is at the beginning of hostilities near Cividale, employed by the 24th division. On 12 June it was deployed on the heights of the right bank of the Isonzo, north-west of Mount Sabotino: during the first battle on the Isonzo, men took part in actions against the Sabotino hills.
After a period of rest, at the end of September the Brigade is back in the trenches, lined up between Monte Sei Busi and the village of Selz (near Ronchi): from here it takes part in the operations of the third battle of the Isonzo by acting against the Monti Cosich and Debeli (above Monfalcone). The IV battle of the Isonzo sees the "Naples" return to attack the positions of Monte Sei Busi, where it remains until the end of the year in defense of the front stretches gained here.

Year 1916
The men of the "Naples", after a period of rest spent in Aquileia, fall in line in the first half of February in the sector of Monfalcone, employed by the 16th division: they remain there until 12 July. Due to some actions carried out against the heights of the area, the Brigade lost more than 3,000 men and 96 officers during this period: for this reason the troop is sent to Strassoldo (under Palmanova) to reorder.
The "Naples" is again called into action on the occasion of the Battle for Gorizia (VI of the Isonzo): on 13 August it is located in Peteano at the disposal of the 23rd division; from here some of his battalions, destined as reinforcements for other units, contribute to some attacks against Mount Pečinka (a hill near the village of Boscomalo / Hudi Log). After a brief period of reorganization, on September 12 the troop is again in the sector of the sanctuary of San Grado di Merna (on Monte Grado, located in the municipality of Merna-Castagnevizza / Miren-Kostanjevica) to participate in the 7th battle of the Isonzo: together with the Grenadier Brigade it competes for the conquest of the high ground, where 800 enemy prisoners are also captured. Even during the VIII Battle of the Isonzo the "Naples" leads actions in this sector, but now the enemy opposes stubborn resistance. The objectives remain the same even in the case of the last offensive of the year (IX battle of the Isonzo), at the end of which Poggio Pelato and altitude 123 are conquered.
On November 13 the Brigade is replaced and transferred to rest in Santa Maria la Longa (above Palmanova). Then passed to the dependencies of the 7th division, the 20th is operating in the Tolmin area, where the departments alternate until the end of the year.

Year 1917
The Brigade remains in the Tolmin area until early August. On September 13, when the offensive for the conquest of the Bainsizza Plateau is still in progress, the "Naples" is engaged on the front that goes from Lom di Canale (sl. Kanalski Lom) to Lom of Tolmino (sl. Tolminski Lom ), so the next day manages to occupy the town of Log (sl. Gorenji Log) and much of the homonymous ridge.
On the night of October 23, at the stroke of the Austro-German offensive, the Brigade is ordered to place itself at the disposal of the 19th division: the 76th is sent as a garrison to the positions of Monte Piatto (sl. TrniÜki vrh, in the Tolmino sector ), with an advanced battalion between Monte Plecia (sl. Pleče) and altitude 174, while the 75th remains in reserve. Some companies (9th, 10th and 11th) of the 76th, isolated and surrounded by the enemy, are captured. On the evening of October 24th the Brigade passes to the dependencies of the 3rd division and the following day, together with the men of the "Elba", they occupy the lines of the Zagradan pass (sl. Za gradom). After being almost entirely overwhelmed by the marching enemy, the remains of the two regiments of the "Naples" fold back, reaching the Tagliamento in Pinzano on 28 October. Crossing the river on November 1st, the troops reach Mestrino (in the Padua area) on November 9th. Gathered near Parma on November 23rd, there the Brigade remains in view of a reorganization.

Year 1918
After a long period of education spent in Rezzato, in the Brescia area, on 18 April the Brigade began its transfer to the Argonne region of France. Here comes May 12, between Avocourt and Vauquois. In the first half of June the men moved to Reims, in the sector of the Bligny wood.
In July, at the beginning of the German offensive (Battle of the Ardre), the 75th is operating in Bligny on the bridge over the Ardre, while the 76th is a reserve at La Ferme d'╔cueil: after a violent bombardment of everything the front of the river, the enemy attacks deeply, but the two regiments manage to resist on the positions of the second line. On July 20 the Brigade is withdrawn; brought here
